Every organisation is different. The values that underpin one organisation may be completely alien to another. It’s what makes the companies we work for so interesting!
Culture starts at the very top. Some might be inherited over many years, but most often it started with a set of values that were extolled at the very top of the organisation and cascaded down to everyone.
Culture makes a big difference to the way we treat customers, colleagues and even ourselves.
Can you recognise the culture of your own organisation? Where did it come from and how widely known is it across all strata of the workforce?
Embedding culture is hugely important. We work closely with clients to help them define, clarify and embed culture at all levels. We enable culture to impact ways of working – basically not just what an employee does, but how they do it.
In a regulated industry, this is more than just a “nice to have” and is imperative where ways of working and minimum standards are requisite by law or regulation.
However, what we have also found over the years is that some organisations haven’t really defined a culture – it has just evolved and with it also some elements of culture that are not ideal. When this happens, we also need to eliminate these aspects and initiate some culture change.
